What is a virtual order, and what is an order with in-stock items?

What is a custom order?

A "made-to-stock" assembly means that we manufacture/assemble the product in advance so that it is ready to ship from our warehouse. Using the system, we easily maintain your inventory levels and process orders with the latest possible cutoff time.

Each assembled product is assigned its own unique product code and is treated as a separate product within the system. We can only produce a kit using our own inventory if there is sufficient stock of the individual components.

We use handy features such as production tracking to maintain inventory levels. Generating a parts list to show the required components and their location in the warehouse, along with production recommendations, helps us meet desired inventory levels and fulfill any backorders.

You can only delete assembled products if they have never been ordered before. If they have been ordered, we can only deactivate the product. Additionally, the product type cannot be changed once there is stock available.

What is a virtual assembly?

When processing a virtual assembly, the WMS adds its components to the order as soon as it is processed.

The entire process is streamlined and transparent: on the picking list, we see all the components/’standard’ products that we need to pick. Each component is scanned individually to ensure that all components have been shipped. On the other hand, the customer only sees the original ordered products on the packing slip—that is, the assembled product and not the components or “standard” products. This creates opportunities to increase the basket value through various tests.

When working with virtual assemblies, we can—to streamline our internal processes—set the expected assembly time, add the parts to the assembly, and specify how many units of each part are needed. The system also offers the flexibility to modify the assembled product afterward, including the product code, name, and price.
