For products of organic origin.

Do you sell products of organic origin, and are your products certified organic? If so, specific guidelines apply to how they must be processed; otherwise, you are not permitted to display the certification.

Throughout the entire supply chain for your products, each participant must provide various forms of evidence and operate in accordance with specific standards. This evidence is audited by a certification body. Only by monitoring the entire supply chain can it be ensured that operations comply with organic standards. Only when the entire chain meets these requirements may organic certification be granted.

We meet the standards for storing and fulfilling organic products.

VASCO is SKAL-certified, which means we meet the standards for storing and fulfilling organic products. SKAL stands for “Stichting Keur Alternatief voortgebrachte Landbouwproducten” (Foundation for the Certification of Alternately Produced Agricultural Products). Every company that produces, processes, packages, imports, trades, or stores organic products must hold this certificate.

In order to obtain and maintain SKAL certification, there are a number of areas that are assessed annually through new audits.

How does organic fulfillment work?

Fulfillment is a single, comprehensive process that involves various sub-activities. Essentially, we distinguish between the following activities, which make up our fulfillment service:

  • x

    Receipt of goods from suppliers

Quality and Quantity Inspection upon Receipt

  • x

    Storage & Inventory Management

    Storing, processing, and recording inventory

  • x

    Order picking, packing, and shipping

    Packaging & shipping ordered products

  • x

    Return Processing

Processing and evaluating the return flow

Dust-free areas.

Organic products must be hermetically sealed off from the external environment in order to minimize or eliminate the potential risk of the product coming into contact with the external environment. This risk is largely eliminated by high-quality, sealed product packaging.

However, there are additional requirements that storage facilities must meet. A key requirement for storage facilities is that they must be dust-free.

FIFO processing.

The First In, First Out (FIFO) method applies to organic products. This means that products received first— in a warehouse, for example —must also be processed first for new outgoing orders.

In other words: products with the earliest best-by date must be processed first.

Batch/Lot Number Registration.

Traceability—that is, the continuous monitoring of products—is of great importance for products of organic origin. For example, it must be possible to determine which production batch was received at a given time, where it is stored, and when it was processed.

Monitoring can be done by recording the production batch number—also known as the LOT number.

Recalls.

Recording and tracking organic products is essential so that, in the event of a recall, it is possible to trace which product was received, stored, and processed at a specific time. Only then can recalls be carried out properly.

In fact, it is possible that a defect in the product has been detected at one of the links in the supply chain. Often, the source of that defect can be traced back to the manufacturer, since the subsequent links in the chain typically only handle, store, and ship the product.

As a result, the individual product is often left untouched until it reaches the end user. In situations where defects are detected, it is therefore crucial to be able to trace, retroactively, who received which batch(es), so that targeted recalls can be carried out.
